A descendant of Dr. Horace Potter finds a strange monument while seeking to know more about his forebears. He finds a civil war surgeon for the 105th IL Infantry that was mustered into service Sept. 5, 1862. He was killed near Acworth, GA, June 2, 1864 by a shell. The very shell that killed Dr. Potter however is embedded in the Granite monument we find! We seek to find the mystery of who from Dr. Potter’s regiment picked up the heavy shell, carried it through the rest of the war and held onto it until the early 1900’s when it was set in a granite monument… and why?
